bat mitzvah

Tonight my son went to his first Bat Mitzvah. Around here these things are like weddings. It's amazing. The invitation was engraved and stated "black tie optional". So that meant we had to get him a nice suit. Good lord. Since he is growing so darn much he needed new shoes, a new shirt and a tie too. But he looked great. He didn't get home till midnight and had lost his voice. From what little he told me, he danced and got 8 hugs! Yeah, he actually counted them. I guess he had a good time.

He wore all black...except for his tie. I did NOT pick out the tie. He choose a bright orange one. I love his sense of individuality, but orange? It makes me almost glad he'll out grow this outfit in a week or two.

martha stewart

Well, it was a long day and I'm exhausted. I think I'm seriously allergic to getting up early! I have been sneezing and sniffy and blowing my nose all day. I now look like rudolph. Ugh.

We made it into the city just in perfect time. We only stood outside for about 20 minutes. Not too bad. They then have you sit in a large room waiting for the late comers. We then were sent up stairs to the studio. We were seated to the extreme left of the stage and we didn't make any appearances on the show. Oh well. Martha lost her voice just a few minutes on and they had to quickly go to a commercial. After some hot tea with honey she continued on. Sigorney Weaver was the guest of the day. She looks great by the way. She is promoting her new LifeTime Special movie. They mad some sort of chicken dish with couscous. The next segment was on antiques and was interesting. The she had someone come in and demo some yoga movements. The last segment was another quick dessert using oat.

A the end of the show we were given a baseball cap from the inauguration. We all received to magazine and a large amount of various Quark er Oats products. I'll be using all of them. Martha's Must Have of the Day was a exercise jacket and everyone in the audience received a gift card to by one on line. I believe she said it was worth $100.00 If was very fast paced and ran very smoothly. She came out after the taping and apologized for her froggy thoart, She wouldn't be taken any questions and we were then escorted down stairs to pick up on products. It was a good day and I would definitely go again,
It took a couple of trys to get the tickets so don't get upset, just keep trying.

me and martha

Tomorrow I will drive into the city to go see Martha. I can't wait. I am a little nervous about going into the big bad city. I only live a few miles from NYC but I don't go in very often. It's too crowded and dirty. I do like the plays, the museums and the restaurants though. And tomorrow I'm going to love Martha. I'll let you know how it goes.

TV

Are you watching the Pre-Inauguration Ceremony? It is wonderful. I've cried and laughed and it's only been an hour. I can't wait for Tuesday. I never thought I would live to see a black man voted to President. I'm so proud of America. God Bless us.

grateful

I've tried to write this post multiple times but it keeps coming out wrong. First I sound so whiny I want to slap myself. Then I come out sounding like Susie Sunshine and again want to slap myself.

So, it just sits here waiting for the right amount of ... something.

Have you seen the news reports about the plane that crash landed in the Hudson? Talk about a miracle! It is amazing. When you think about all the things that could have gone wrong (OK, besides the whole crash landing) it is amazing that everyone survived. I think the whole crew and every passenger just played their parts perfectly. In this day and age, miracles are sorely needed.

My son is still sick but getting better. The coughing fits are down and he seems to be sleeping better. I'm so glad we have insurance, between the 3 visits and the 4 different prescriptions we would be broke.

I was sitting down today and just adding it all up. Just the doctors visits would have been $252! That's so much money. There are so many people out there who can't afford to take their sick kid to the doctor and that makes me ill. I've been very lucky to have the insurance and the money to pay for things. We may not get new coats, or go on vacations but we have the basics covered. And with the cold weather here, I'm even more grateful for what we have. We have a home, heat, running water, lots of blankets and clothing. Things that others just don't have right now. I can go to Shop Rite and buy the basics and honestly, a few extras. I don't have to stand there and decide which meal is going to be the best priced and last the longest. I am getting whiny again, so I'm off to bed. Tomorrow I will put on my rose colored glasses and try to see the good thing.

So hug your kids, kiss your mates, and keep moving forward.

Good news

Let's start with my Dad. He went to the cardiologist and is doing great. So great that he doesn't have to go back to see him for a full year!

I had my stitches taken out and survived. I know. It was close. It was just a bonus when the doctor told me that the results showed he had gotten all the bad, bad cells. I don't have to go back for three months. Yippee.

And then I went for my 6 month follow-up mammo (could this week get any better?). I am fine (but my boobs seem a little flat right now) and don't have to go back for a year.

Oh, and yes this week wouldn't be complete without a visit to the OB/GYN tomorrow! I just can't wait for this week to be over.

back to school

Tomorrow my son goes back to school! Did you hear that noise? No? I think he is in bed crying (just kidding). Actually he has a cough and is hacking his brains out. Tomorrow should be fun trying to get him up and out on time. But then the rest of the day is all mine. The piles of laundry are begging to be cleaned, folded and put away. And the dust bunnies are gathering in mass under the couch, they are planning a coup.

free time

I have spent the last two hours doing absolutely nothing. Yup. And I'm damn proud of it. You see Mr. Crankypants took my son snow tubing. They just called and want the hot chocolate ready in 10 minutes. I guess they are cold - LOL. It is 27 degrees outside and up on the mountain it must have been even colder. Gotta go, they are home already.
